A program that assists families whose members have special needs, being affected by disability or sickness, whether physical or mental, temporary or permanent. Support includes material support, medical costs, food aid, and respite care.
Bilal* and Aysha* live in Melbourne on a bridging visa. Their daughter Hadiya* was born with a serious medical condition called Neural Tube Defect and Tethered Spinal Cord disorder. From the moment she was born, she has required 24 hours care and the family has been under immense pressure financially and mentally.
Hadiya is undergoing treatment at the Melbourne Royal Children's Hospital but it has been very costly on the family. She will be undergoing her second major surgery shortly and over the next few months, 3 more surgeries will be required to correct her spine. Being on a bridging visa, Bilal is restricted to working just 3 days week to support his family with two children and take care of Hadiya’s growing medical needs. Needless to say, the family is struggling to manage their finances.
MAA has supported the family with rental installments and medical expenses in their time of need. We will also be providing support for Hadiya’s upcoming surgeries.
Can we request you to do your best to help us support her and people like her through MAA's local special needs initiative?
